| Title: Meeting the trifluralin challenge | Author: Graeme Jennings |
| Many farmers are concerened about the growing incidence of trifluralin resistance and the threat that this poses to no-till farming. The following article details how this can be managed. |
| |
Suggestions that trifluralin resistance poses a threat to the future of no-till, which in recent years has increasingly been seen as reliant on the pre-emergent chemical, appear ill-founded for at least two reasons.
The first is the many significant benefits from no-till systems, which ensures innovative growers will find ways around the challenge posed by trifluralin resistance. This ... |

| Title: To drift or not to drift | Author: Michael Bennet |
| Nozzles were evaluated in several different spraying application situations this season on Eyre Peninsula. Working closely with Graham Betts (ASK GB) the nozzle trials were formulated to provide a decision making tool for growers looking for an answer to drift and nozzle selection questions. |
| |
| What lessons were learnt during 2005? |
One critical lesson learnt from the spray trials this season was related to the actual output of each nozzle. Each nozzle is rated by an international standard according to the volume of water output at given pressures. For example, a yellow 02 nozzle is rated for an output of 790 ml/min at 3 bar output pressure.
Unfortunately it was measured that the actual water output varied by as ... |

| Title: Don’t get caught out on summer weed control | Author: Graeme Jennings |
| Summer weed management continues to be an important part of managing the no-till farming system. The following artcile by Graeme Jennings of John Lamb Communications dicusses various apsects to consider. |
| |
| "Don't get caught out on summer weed control this season," cautions Andre Sabeeney. "January rainfall is likely to determine the need for summer weed control in most districts, according to the Clare-based Elders agronomist. This means growers would be well advised to keep a close watch on their paddocks over the next few weeks and be prepared to react quickly based on what th... |

FarmLinkX |
| Title: 'Mutual understanding' FarmLinkX objective | Author: Santfa |
| Mutual understanding between farmers and urban residents is a key objective of the Community FarmLinkX Project. |
| |
The Project, an initiative of the SA No-Till Farmers Association (SANTFA), aims to improve farming and residential living conditions in Adelaide's northern 'urban fringe'.
It will be focused on the Gawler, Freeling and Mallala districts, where there are farms and residential areas in close proximity to each other. Community FarmLinkX is supported by the SA Go... |

No-till technology |
| Title: SANTFA role in technology development, adoption | Author: Graeme Jennings |
| SANTFA is playing an important role in the d evelopment and adoption of new-generation farming technology, according to Professor Tim Reeves. |
| |
Speaking at the launch of the Community FarmLinkX Project Professor Reeves, a former Director General of CIMMYT and a pioneer of no-till farming systems in Victoria in the 1960s, said farming productivity has increased faster than mining or manufacturing over the past 30 years. He attributes this to widespread adoption of technologies such as no-till sowing methods that have been d... |

| Title: A passion for proft environment, technology | Author: Greg Butler |
| Greg Butler, SANTFA's new research and development (R&D) Manager, was attracted to the position because he felt the role encompassed many of his passions, in particular proftable farming systems, environmental cohesion and the process of technology adoption. |
| |
I've worked with farming systems a cross Australia and in other areas of the world and have invariably found that growers who adopt sensible practices reap the benefts.
I realise that change doesn't always happen quickly and there are many obstacles such as re-skilling and re-tooling. The process requires good strategic planning, working capital and persistence if eve... |

Farmer no-till experience |
| Title: Sowing with Knuckey at Tuckey | Author: Michael Bennet |
| Jason, Julie, Ian and Helen Burton farm at Tuckey, between Lock and Rudall on Central Eyre Peninsula. |
| |
In 2006 the Burtons are cropping 4,600 ha; 1,100 ha of which is being leased on a one-year term.
Their soils are typical dune swale country ranging from sandy loam over clay to non-wetting deeper sand rises with some limestone rocky country mixed amongst it.
Their main focus is to get a seeding system that is going to work for all their soil types and achieve an even... |
