About CAAANZ
Many of Australia's no-till farmers are part of a new international alliance with more than 3,500 members in six no-till and conservation farming organisations across Australia and New Zealand.
In SA, farmers are represented through the SA No-Till Farmers Association (SANTFA) and SANTFA president Steve Ball, a Riverton farmer.
The Conservation Agriculture Alliance of Australia and New Zealand (CAAANZ) comprises the SA, WA and Victorian No-Till Farmers Associations, Conservation Farmers Incorporated, based in Queensland and Northern NSW, Central West Conservation Farmers Association, which represents farmers in Central NSW, and the New Zealand No-Tillage Association.
CAAANZ will provide a united voice for conservation farmers on issues ranging from research investment to carbon sequestration.Developments in the USA suggest the role of no-till farming and other conservation farming measures in carbon-sequestration to help counter greenhouse gas emissions and global warming is set to become a major issue for Australian farmers.
CAAANZ has been established to improve the flow of technical information across State and national boundaries and give conservation farmers a single voice on big-picture issues like carbon sequestration. This alliance will build synergy between the member organisations, provide them with a common voice on a variety of farming and political issues and focus use of the available resources on the key issues for conservation farmers across Australia and NZ.
CAAANZ will encourage further adoption of conservation farming practices in Australia and NZ and improve information sharing about the benefits and practicalities of conservation farming from stubble management to sowing technology.
